This explains what happens to the information you give us when you join the Worldseen waitlist. We've kept it plain, because that's the whole point of Worldseen.
Who we are
This website (worldseen.app) and its waitlist are operated by Jipikaje OÜ, based in Estonia (“Worldseen”, “we”, “us”). We're the data controller for the information described here. You can reach us any time at hello@worldseen.app.
What this covers
Two separate things, and it is worth keeping them apart:
- This website and its waitlist — covered immediately below. The only thing collected is an email address.
- The Worldseen app — covered in The Worldseen app at the end of this page. Your travel history lives on your own device and never reaches us.
The website: what we collect
When you join the waitlist, we collect one thing:
- Your email address — so we can tell you, once, when Worldseen is ready.
Along with it, your browser sends the usual technical basics — the date and time, the page you came from, and your language and time zone. We use these only to keep the form free of spam and to see roughly where sign-ups come from.
We don't ask for your name. We don't collect any of the places you've been, your location, or anything about your travels — none of that exists outside your own device.
Why we use it
We use your email for a single purpose: to email you when the app launches. Under the EU/UK GDPR, our legal basis is your consent, given when you submit the form — and you can withdraw it at any time by unsubscribing or emailing us. For the technical basics, we rely on our legitimate interest in preventing abuse.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your information, ever, and we never share it with advertisers or data brokers.
- We run no ads — not on the site, not in the app. That's a founding principle, not a phase.
- We set no cookies and don't track you across the web.
Who processes data for us
These providers help us run Worldseen:
- Zone Media (zone.ee) — our website host, in Estonia (EU). Their servers may briefly log your IP address for security and reliability.
- Cloudflare — we use Cloudflare's cookieless web analytics to count visits and see how pages perform. It doesn't identify you, use unique identifiers, or build a profile; it reads your IP momentarily to estimate a country, then discards it.
The website: how long we keep it
We keep your email until the app launches and we've let you know, or until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it — whichever comes first. If the project doesn't go ahead, we delete the list.
Your rights
Wherever you live, email hello@worldseen.app to see what we hold, correct it, delete it, or unsubscribe.
In the EU, UK, or EEA you have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict, or object to our use of your data, to portability, and to withdraw consent at any time — and to complain to your local data protection authority. In California and other US states with privacy laws, you have the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” — which we don't do.
Security
We keep the waitlist to the minimum — an email address — and limit who can access it. No method of storage is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect it.
Younger visitors
There is no age limit on Worldseen itself. It contains nothing unsuitable for younger people, and a fourteen-year-old marking the countries they have been to is exactly who it is for.
The waitlist is narrower, only because it means us sending email. Data protection law sets a minimum age for agreeing to that yourself — 13 in Estonia, and somewhere between 13 and 16 elsewhere in the EU. If you are younger than that, ask a parent or guardian to join on your behalf. If you think a child has signed up without that, email us and we will remove the address.
The Worldseen app
Worldseen is built to respect your privacy. This explains what the app stores and how it is used, in plain language.
What stays on your phone. Everything you record — places, years, notes, your home, any photo you import — is stored only on that device. Worldseen has no account and no server for your record. It is never uploaded, and we cannot see it. Backups you export are files you hold.
Google Drive backup. Off unless you turn it on. When on, Android keeps an encrypted copy of your record in your own Google account's Drive, alongside the rest of that phone's app data, and restores it on a new phone. That copy is between you and Google; Worldseen never sees it.
The one thing that uses the internet. The landmark dive — flying down to Times Square, Giza or Everest — streams satellite imagery and terrain from MapTiler while you use it. That request carries only which of the three landmarks you are looking at, the same for everyone; nothing about your own travels is sent. MapTiler receives your IP address as part of the connection, as any website does. Their policy: maptiler.com/privacy-policy.
Nothing else in Worldseen connects to the internet. There are no analytics, no crash reporting and no advertising. We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties.
Photos. If you import from photos, they are read on your phone to suggest places. The photos and their location data are never uploaded.
Location. If you turn on Location, the app asks your phone once for where you are — to place you on the globe, match day or night, and offer the country you are in. It is used on your phone and never sent anywhere, and kept only until you turn Location off. Your phone's own location service may consult Google to work out your position; that is the phone's doing, not the app's.
Accounts and syncing. When these become available, signing in will let you back up your world and reach it across devices. This policy will then be expanded to describe exactly what is stored in the cloud and how it is secured.
You can clear all of your data at any time from the menu. Deleting your account, once accounts exist, will remove your stored world permanently.
Questions about privacy: hello@worldseen.app. Worldseen is made by Jipikaje OÜ, Estonia, the data controller for the little this app touches.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date above, and for significant changes affecting people already on the list, we'll say so by email.
